NZQA

WOHC provides comprehensive Workplace First Aid training equivalent to NZQA unit standards 6401 & 6402 and 6400 on request.

WOHC is NZQA accredited so if you require the unit standards to be recorded against your National Student Number (NSN number) we are able to do this through our provider Genesis Energy.

Unit Standards are:

6400 – Manage First Aid in an Emergency

Unit Standard 6400 teaches the trainees to manage first aid in an emergency situation. Training includes teaching of unit standards 6401 and 6402.

  • Recovery Position /Moving Patient
  • Chest Injuries
  • Head Injuries
  • Febrile Convulsions
  • CVA (Stroke )
  • Epilepsy
  • Diabetes
  • Asthma
  • Bone & Joint Injuries/ Crush Injuries
  • Wounds and Dressings
  • Bandaging
  • Neck & Spinal Injuries
  • Poisoning Insects & Allergic Reactions
  • Burns
  • Hyperventilation
  • Eye Injuries
  • Heat Stress/ Hypothermia

A very theoretical and practical unit standard that requires trainees to participate in role play’s and scenarios set by the instructor; demonstrating their knowledge and skills to manage an emergency situation.

Initial training for this takes at least 12 hours (a day and a half), however refresher training (held every 2 years) can be carried out in one day (8 hour) course.

6401 – Provide Basic First Aid

Unit Standard 6401 teaches trainees to provide basic first aid until help arrives.

The course includes the following:

  • Bleeding
  • Shock
  • Recovery Position /Moving Patient
  • Chest Injuries
  • Head Injuries
  • Febrile Convulsions
  • CVA (Stroke )
  • Epilepsy
  • Diabetes
  • Asthma
  • Bone & Joint Injuries/ Crush Injuries
  • Wounds and Dressings
  • Bandaging
  • Neck & Spinal Injuries
  • Poisoning Insects & Allergic Reactions
  • Burns
  • Hyperventilation
  • Eye Injuries
  • Heat Stress/ Hypothermia

This unit standard comprises of both theoretical and practical components and assessment by the instructor. You will be required to complete assessments individually and as a group.

Training for this unit standard in taught in conjunction with unit standard 6402 (CPR) and course length is 8 hours.

6402 – CPR

Unit Standard 6402 teaches CPR or Cardiopulmonary Resusitation, airway obstruction and how to use an AED or Automatic External Defibrillator.

The course includes teaching the latest resusitation techniques for use on Adults, children and babies. Trainees are taught of the types of risks and dangers they should be aware when they are faced with different situations and the techniques of managing the situation to ensure the safety of themselves and others until help arrives.

This unit standard comprises of both theoretical and practical components and assessment by the instructor.

Training for this unit standard is taught in conjunction with unit standard 6401 (Basic First Aid); Total course length is 8 hours.

WOHC also runs a CPR only course on request; the course length is 2 hours.

If you require NZQA you do need to notify us before the day of the training so we can ensure all the appropriate documentation is ready.
